I don't know how practical this idea is, but I thought that I would give it a shot on maast to see if its a good idea or not. I am thinking about a 10gallon with some live rock, live sand, and clam shells to house 3 goby/shrimp pairs.
yashia goby, flaming prawn goby, and red banded high fin. All gobies would get their own shrimp as well. Since these are all peaceful fish from what I've read, would this be enough space to pull off such a symbiosis habitat. As far as clean up crew goes, I'm sure it'd be mostly snails if not all snails as the crabs may try to attack the flaming prawn goby. Any input would be great. Also the tank would not be very brightly lit as the primary focus is not to grow corals (ok maybe a few zoos and torch corals), but to have an easily viewable habitat for nice looking shrimp/goby pairs.

I think that might be pushing it, but you could probably pull it of w/ 5 day water changes, max. I would try to get about 15 lbs of LR in it established for filtration.

3 pistols making tunnels in a tank that has a footprint of something like 10" x 20" and 3 fish that will fight over which shrimp they want.
better off with the pair and a non shrimp goby or other nano fish.

Agree 1 pair in a 10g. Id even say one pair in a 50g.

wow... I didn't realize it was a situation with shrimp/goby pairs. Ok scratch that then...
Ok so what would fit a 10gallon appropriately with a fire prawn goby and pistol shrimp? a rainford's goby? anything else? I realize its hard to find compatibility with a 3/4-1inch sized fish lol... I just want to setup a small specialized tank where the focus is not necessarily corals.
I may end up doing something like a 6gallon for just a fire prawn goby if I can't figure out how to make it work well in a 10gallon setup... I'm kinda discouraged as I wanted the fire prawn goby and yashia in the same tank.
Would a yashia goby/pistol shrimp pair do ok in a 20long with 2 ocellaris clowns and a citron goby? I have a bicolor blenny in there right now and he's mean to everyone in the tank.

A group of sexy shrimp hosting on some kind of softie would be cool too.
Then some nice red macros and you got a wicked cool tank.

I picked up a yashia/tiger pistol pair and I'm gonna setup a small tank to house a flaming prawn goby and candy stripe pistol maybe with a rainfords goby too I dunno.

I like the idea of the masked gobies.

my rainfords goby and yashia seem to be paired up with the tiger pistol now... kinda weird for a symbiotic threesome of sea life.

All right since yashia one mysteriously died well... he was kinda skinny when I got him, I decided that I'd try again.... so I got a pair of yashias which so happened to be a male and female (or two non fighting males or two nonfighting females) with a candy stripe pistol shrimp for my newly setup biocube 14 (basically a quick cycle where I transplanted existing water, rock, and sand from a running tank 2 weeks ago.) They seem to be acclimating well and searching all over the tank, their shyness is wearing off quick as 3 hours later they are swimming over the most of the tank, but if spooked-both fish go back to the same burrow. It's sweet!
I guess I'll need a yellow watchman or something to replace the yashia that died... I guess my tiger pistol shrimp could use a buddy again.
