I am really wanting to go to MACNA this year, but am not sure what I want to pay for ticketwise. I plan to take my 2 kiddos (10 and 12), husband and mother on the trip to Atlanta, but will be dropping a WAD of cash on the aquarium itself, so what do you guys recommend at MACNA itself? I looked on the website and they don't give an actual schedule of who will be speaking when and what workshops will be offered. What are the "must sees" for MACNA? Are there things my "non-addicts" will like there, too? They like saltwater, but I think they would be bored to tears to hear about the latest skimmer technology.

There is PLENTY to see and do in Atlanta for non-fish people. MACNAXX will have a kids program this year as well. The kids program will take the kids on a tour of the CNN center to watch how live TV is made. We will be taking them to the world of coke to get all sugared up before we bring them back to you. We will be taking them to the Aquarium for special kid activities. There is so much more that is planned. We have tried to think about what was missing from the past MACNAs and thought of our own kids when coming up with a program. We are defiantly a family friendly spot this year.
As an added bonus, Airtran just opened direct flights from San Antonio to Atlanta for around $99 each way. You can not beat that. (The drive from SA to ATL is not too bad but I am not sure about with two kids and a mother in the car! :at_wits_end:)
If you have not seen the MACNA schedule, you can check it out here (http://macnaxx.com/schedule.htm). If you have any other questions, feel free to come to the ARC (http://www.atlantareefclub.org) and ask away. I personally can not wait till MAAST puts in a bid for MACNA XXII. San Antonio is my home town (Churchill Class of '98) and know that you will have the full support of the ARC in helping plan anything that you need.

Brando,
Thanks for the info. My wife and I are looking forward with much anticipation to Dos X's in your fair city. My family is from Georgia and some still live in Smyrna off of Cobb. We also are giddy with the prospects of Macna XXII in SA. We look forward to working with you guys and if there is anything we can do to help with yours, please feel free to contact me.

Trade ya... You can move to Atlanta and I can go back home to San Antonio. ;)
I am glad ya'll are coming out. Seriously, if anyone from SA or Austin is heading out. Let me know what I can do to make it a great trip. All I ask is that on your way to the airport you bring me a dozen or two Alamo Café Tortillas and a quart of salsa!!!
I do not want to Brag or anything, but this is shaping up to be the best MACNA of the bunch so far. We learned A LOT from Steve Pro and the MACNAXIX crew last year. It would be an honor to pass what we learn on to ya'll. I was really hoping that ya'll would bid for next year that way I did not have to go to NJ. ;)

Funny, I just realized that I either mistyped or am getting forgetful because I graduated in 1997. I was suppose to go to my 10 year reunion last year. I do not know if I need my high school reputation preceding me on reef boards though! ;)
Anyways, Michigan to Atlanta is not that far of a drive. I did my grad work in Kalamazoo and had to make that drive before. OH and IN, it is smooth sailing. ;)

Maybe worth loading the truck up with all the freebies!
