Does anyone else out there feel that Tunze products are overrated? I've had a Red Sea Classic skimmer outperform Tunze's classic horizontal skimmer, and the Red Sea cost almost $300 less. However, I will say that their Osmolator rocks! But, I just can't stomach paying $300 for a powerhead, not the mention that my wife would divorce me! Hey, maybe I should buy their pump. JUST KIDDING, I love my darling bride dearly. Your thoughts and experiences are appreciated. Thanks.

I disagree with you; But what works for one in the hobby doesnt meen it will for another. We all have diffrent taste, needs and especially funds to put into the hobby.

I have never personally owned a Tunze product, because they are so costly...but from reputation, reading, and researching, they are worth the $$$. If you are willing to pay for it, that is. And from my understanding what you pay up front for the powerhead, will more than pay for itself in reliability, quality, customer support (I have read how Roger out of Austin is always helping people out with Tunze issues), and energy consumption...

Sorry guys, I know I've committed some form of reefer heresy by posting this thread. When I first got into the hobby I quickly learned that Tunze was the Mercedes of the reef world. You can tell by just holding their products that they put a lot of thought into their designs. Everything is solidly constructed and well thought out. Plus, y'all are right about Roger. I used to work across the street from him and you don't meet too many others as nice as him. By they way, I love MAAST. You guys really seem to look out for one another. I'll soon be paying my $25 dues so I can do my part to help support the community and get myself a cool little avatar for the forums.

The prices increase yearly at about 10%. This is very common for any products coming out of Europe. Has been for decades. It's all about matching the dollar to the current monetary system from where the products are coming from. Right now the dollar sux arse at about 2:1 be it Pounds or Euors, blame that on your current Prez and his 12 billion a month WAR. In reality a small 10-15% increase might actually be less than the actual price difference this year, meaning it may cut into Tunze USA (Roger) profit margin.
Am I bitter you ask? Oh sweet Nelly am I. My Norton and Triumph parts DOUBLED in price in less than ONE year.

They did go up at the beginning of the year....for the reason that Mike just mentioned...the weakening US Dollar vs. Euro (not to mention many other countries' monetary value). I want to say the price went up 12%...there was a thread on that in the Tunze section on Reef Central late last year / early this year.

I love my tunze pumps! 2 tunze pumps replaced like 10 powerheads in my 400 gallon and I like the water movement more now. Dont like the price? Just buy them used!
