Indeed I'd also like to thank John for sponsoring MAAST. I've been shopping at Reefcleaners for a few months now and every order has gone above and beyond my expectations.

I was wondering when you were going to pop up. I first heard about MAAST from caferacer. We are jealous in Florida we don't have an organization like yours.

I too have been very happy with everything I've gotten from John. Mangroves are starting to take off, and the ceriths are everywhere - tiny, but everywhere. Now. If I could just get something to eat my hair algae...

You guys really roll out the red carpet. Bill did you get any Chitons, I don't remember what you got, although I remember you ordering. They tear up hair algae, that is how we find them actually, living in thick growths of the stuff.

John,

I ordered when you had just really started going. 1000 snails and about 150 mangroves. I don't think you had Chitons. Tell me how many I need for my 215g tank, and send me an invoice: bstreep@satx.rr.com

Mon, 24th Mar 2008, 07:00 PM
That is why I remembered you! One of our legacy customers! What else of a CUC do you have in there? Don't want to send too many. Also, Chitons have to go by Express Mail, is that okay with you?

Hmm. About 7-800 blue legs. 2 tuxedo urchins. Probably 100 turbos left. Maybe 50 nassarius. TONS of tiny brittle stars - maybe a few thousand. A Rabbit fish too.

Express is fine.

Wow Bill, you got a huge cleanup crew there! I am having a hard time answering this one, because I am worried you could become overstocked. If there was no clean up crew in your tank you could get 400 Chitons. But there is, so I would drastically reduce that. This is just to give you an idea. I would start off with smaller orders, like 50 or so, to make sure the tank doesn't become overstocked. I think that would be the best way to proceed for now. It might be better to get even less at a time, but then USPS becomes too much of a middle man. They are not tall, but can grow up to 3 inches long each, and 1 inch wide. They are in an oval shape. With this biomass in mind maybe you can get a better idea. Also you might want to think about sea hares, although you must be careful with them, as they can really foul up a tank if they die, or if they get scared and ink the tank. Such a big tank must have cost a pretty penny, and I would hate to see you lose it over such a small critter. Coupled with their short lifespans this may be too risky for you. They do love to eat algae though. Hope this helps.

All the Best,
John Maloney

Hey Bill, I should have asked you in the email if you have any pictures of the problem algae. If you have one post it, or send it to me in an email.

I just ordered some "test" cleanup critters from another vendor but your prices are much better, even without the discount! I'll be needing a fairly large number in the next week or two. These are all going into growout tanks for seahorse fry so everything needs to be able to tolerate Panacur treatment since hydroids always seem to show up from time to time.

On this recent order Florida ceriths and Virgin nerites tolerated the treatment. So I was wondering if you can get virgin nerites or do you know if the nerites you offer can handle the Panacur (fenbendazole) treatment?

I would also be interested in keyhole limpets if you can get them since they are known to tolerate the treatment and may actually prey on hydroids some people say.

And lastly, if there is any stargrass in the areas you collect from I would buy some in a heartbeat. And could easily find a bunch of other people who would buy it too.

Thanks

Richard

I just noticed that you sell the larger fighting conchs. They are so much hardier and eat alot more algae than the little aquacultured ones IME. So I'll also be getting a few of those for my main tank for sure. Thanks for offering those, they're hard to find.

The Florida Fighting Conchs are harder to find during this time of the year. In a month or so they make there march inland a bit and become easier. We and my brother are going on an exploration trip soon to find the rarer Black Florida Fighting Conch. It is a larger variety of the species that is extremely difficult to find, but we have some good tips from a young kid, (9 years old), who is absolutely amazing at catching every large snail. Watch out for him, in a couple of years!

We don't usually go after virgin nerites because they are a brackish species, and we cater to mostly marine tanks. We can look for them though in the future if your interested. I would imagine the Nerites we carry would survive it as well, but I am not sure. Let me do some research before you buy. We normally don't carry keyhole limpets. We have found colonies of them before, but they are known to eat corraline, so we didn't offer them.

I couldn't help but notice that you are a little more generous here at MAAST than you are on one of the other forums I'm on quite a bit!!! Not complaining, just noticed..

You're the man John.

Hey good to see you glenn! That is because from a cost stand point MAAST is very reasonable, and we have a great return from here. Because we get such a great value for our sponsorship, we are able to extend a greater discount. The other forum you are on, is pretty expensive to sponsor, and orders are generally so small that we wouldn't be able to make any money with the same discount.

I forgot about the discount! I am going to be needing a clean up crew towards the end of this month. Do you use anything in your packages for colder weather shipments?

Its getting a little cool out. Lows in the 40s and highs in the low to mid 60s now. I'm sure by months end it will be a little cooler yet. I'll get ahold of you once I plan out a order. Still waiting for my tank to arrive.

no need for the post count anymore. we did that originally to keep MAAST and our other sponsors free from people joining just for the discount and not participating in the site. But it seems that is not a problem.
