I have been trying to figure out, for quite a few weeks now, where to begin in picking a good skimmer, for my "on the way" 185 reef aquarium......... I picked a EuroReef RS80 skimmer for my 40 and 75, gallon, and have been really happy with it. I have heard that the larger one isn't as good, so I am still searching for one for the bigger aquarium I am "moving-up to"........(DSA Neo 185g). I had pretty much settled on getting a Bubble King 200 Mini, but I have read some controversy about it. I am not as worried about spending $1200.00 on a skimmer, if it is going to do a good job, but I don't want to be disappointed in its effectiveness and waste money, either. :at_wits_end:

I would like to hear suggestions on how to pick a good skimmer. Suggestions\testimonials on skimmers would also be great.

Or a big dual beckett skimmer for a good price.

Deltec's are very good, but expensive. I've been using the reeflo 250 for the last few months and have been happy. But to tell you the truth my old beckett used to skim out thicker gunk.

I believe Kingfish in Austin is a retailer of Deltec products.

DAS Skimmers are Deltec Clones for about half the price. You can get a D.A.S EX-2 for about $420 & a D.A.S EX-3 for about $620 shipped from Ebay. I recently got a D.A.S EX-2 & I am very happy with it. It skims like a beast. It's a night and day difference from my last (I didn't make it) Home-Brew Ventury Type Skimmer. Check it out; you won't be sorry you did. But Yeah, Deltec makes great skimmers.

It's really hard to decided on a skimmer these days, I mean, how do you know the skimmer salesman isn't a crazy glue sniffer, build a model airplane he says well we're not buying it. He snuck into your house one time, that's all it takes, next thing you know your daughter's knocked up and there's money missing off your dresser, I've seen it a hundred times. But for your daughter's sake, for your fishes sake, you might wanna buy a quality product from Deltec.

Checkout Reefcentral.com . The only thing I saw was that some of the lower models had some issues with the Aquabee pumps. But after contacting Deltec they got their pumps replaced. -David

How do you plumb those beasts? All I have used is an RS80. Can I put it in the sump? Would an AP701 be a good choice for 185 g? Has anybody used a Deltec Turbo?

if you already have a skimmer, just use that and be patient and youll find one on this site for atleast half price. i use euroreef for both of my tanks (i got both from this site for at least 50% to value) and i would not even think about going to anything else. there is no adjusting or plumbing involved, you just set it (into the sump), turn it on, and forget it and it will take what looks like crude oil out of your tank. i'm sure Deltec is will do the same but the point is just monitor this site and you'll find one.....and spend some money on your skimmer, that is something that is worth doing right the 1st time.

Ask Ace, aka hobogato. He makes all things acrylic, and from what I hear, great skimmers.
