Anyone around here use a quarantine tank? We are ready to take that step and I realize I have a couple of questions.
I know I am supposed to use a clean tank with no LR, no sand, etc. How long do you quarantine the fish (assuming that no obvious problems present themselves that would dictate a treatment time, etc)? Do you "treat" with anything as a preventative if no problems are observed with the fish? Any tips from your experience would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Kristy, just to give you a heads up this may be covered in Mays meeting on livestock acclimation. I belive CMydas is looking for a speaker on the subject.
In the meen time it depends on the type of livestock and condition when it comes to courantine. Many as you know do not courantine at all. Some only courantine when the notice something is wrong. IMO if you do courantine, do a minimum if 2 days to reduce stress on the fish. I say this because you are moving them from tanks failry quickly Store-courantine-Display, and you dont want to do this to rapidly because it will only make things worse.

i set mine with a cheap hang on filter, heater, a used piece of sponge(from the main tank sump), or a small piece of live rock, use water from the main tank,a power head , 4" x 4" pvc pipe, feed with diffrent food and fat'em them up (so when they go in the main tank, they can compete against other fishes and disease) i usually leave them in there from 2-6 weeks. water change once a week (usnig main tank water)

What do you mean "feed with different food"?

it is easier if you introduce them with varieties in the begining, so they wont just eat one kind of food and become a picky eater. Varieties have more protein and nutrients than just one kind of food.
