good pics!!!

i liked rods food but the negatives far outweighed the positives of feeding it for me. i started getting some sort of strange something or other covering everything that was the exact same color as rods food. i stopped feeding it and it went away thankfully. i know a couple of others here have told me they had the same issue as well.

yup same problem as tony. its a good food but makes my tank look horrible with like a thick greyish almost cyano looking type of something on my sand, but as soon as rods is gone from the tank so is the problem.

That's interesting,I noticed a new covering on substrate after starting Rod's but also got RO/DI at a new place and had 1 yr old bulbs,so I figured it was one of those.Put in new bulbs, have my owm RO/DI ( 0ppm output)so maybe it's been the food all along.I'll switch back to previous food to see if substrate clears up.Thanks for the info!

I use Rod's occasionally. It is a very thick oily food so using it as a mian staple could quickly muck up the tank. I have yet to see the film from feeding but I do notice my skimmer goes nuts after feeding.

yeah when i used rods everyday, even not as the main staple, i saw the "algae"? very quickly. But just stop feeding it and water changes will take it out..its really thick too you can just yank it out...like cyano???

Rod's was a great find for us because all the fish love it and this was what transitioned my mandarin onto frozen food (which is always nice to see). We just use a small piece to supplement other stuff we are feeding. BUT, we have seen that thick red slime in a couple of places at a couple of different times and now this makes so much sense! Hmmmm...Glad to put those together. We will definitely start just using it intermittently now as a supplemental food.
