This question is for those of you who keep/use a quarantine tank. I'm tired of loosing fish without knowing why so I'm giving in to the qurantine idea.

But what kind of tank do you set up? Do you use a bare tank? I would think that would stress out any fish/critters with no place to hide. Do you use one with a sand bed and live rock? Do you keep it up all the time- seems like you would have to with impulse buying and never knowing what the local stores will be getting in stock. Do you treat the fish for parasites while it is in quarantine? What have you found to be the best size tank to use?

Looking for people with experience to tell me what has worked for them and what they feel would work best. If someone knows a post or a reference to an article that is good that would be appreciated also. Seems everyone has an opinion on what it should be but no one writes much from their personal experience.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

i was using a bare tank (30gallon) with a 4" x 6" piece of pvc , a hang on back wisper filter, heater, powerhead,a piece of used sponge from my sump,.I leave the fish in from 3-4 weeks , feed it with variety of food, try to get them fat and watch them closely.I use the water from the main tank and water change from the main tank too.. i dont' treat it unless i notice something is wrong with the fish.i am pretty sure some else will chime in more ideas too....call me if you have any more question 210-843-4856,,,,,btw,,,how the 265s come a long?

i use a 20 gallon tank bare bottom. i have an intank filter a heater set at 78 and slowly turn up the temp til i reach 83 then i leave it alone. might be wondering why i turn up the heat. it is known that the ich process will go faster in a higher temp thats why i turn up the temp. i treat the tank with copper safe and give a garlic chemical to tempt the fish to eat if not eating alrealdy. i have a flourescent light over the tank. after the fish goes into the main tank i leave the tank running until i reach the month then i do a 50% water change and through the carbon back in and it is a regular tank until i get a new fish again and have to remove the carbon and put a new filter and repeat the process. like you said everyone has a different method and this has worked for me.

good thread though interesting to here what everyone elso does. also have heard a uv steralizer is a great addition to the tank for controling ich and other infections. i don't have one but wouldn't mind getting one in the future.

Ace is coming this weekend, if all goes well, and putting on the Calflo and bringing the sump. Jeremy is coming to do the plumbing next week then I guess I'll be in business. Anxious to see it up and running.

P.S. Thanks for your information, but I must ask why did you say "was using" did you quit with the quarantine? Your tank is too pretty to risk anything!!!!!!!
