LOL! I keep threatening Brian with a shark pond. Then all I'll need is the laser beams! I love the predators.

I was joking with Mike (Mojo) the other day that since scientist can put tags on shark fins, in theory, I could start a line of sharkbling. Diamond studs, streamers, the whole nine yards...sharks with grills...thats the future of shark keeping...lmao!

What are you planning for the lagoon? And how do you plan on safe-guarding it from contaminates and children/animals?

haha a grill on a sand tiger. well we are having a pool built with a pool house, so i was thinking of just building another room off the pool house, and having it all housed in there. like a slightly raised pond.

Very nice. You definately need to do a blog or tank thread about that!

wow, how big is that tank then? what do you do to filter out all the nitrates that are sure to be building up?

BA

actually sense i set it up, i've never had a problem with nitrates.( crossing fingers) its a 375gallon tenecor, 96 x 30 x 30 inches. it has a wet/dry system, skimmer, UV light, mag filters, refugium with a DSB, and another sump with mangroves, and a recently added 32gallon trashcan full of sand which water runs over it. ( i dont know whats its called? super deep sand bed, haha)

I'll bet it would sell too!!

Awesome sharks! I saw a thread a year or so ago about a guy that built a 4' concrete wall in a bedroom for a shark tank, with a (I think 2" thick) acrylic front and used an adjacent room for the fitration.

ah-haaaaaaaaaaaa. Very nice! What kind of sand did you use in your trashcan? Did you see the post about the 3M Colorquartz? It may be worthwhile to try in your shark lagoon!

BA

ya i saw that, i like that idea of the colorquartz, were breaking ground on our house this month so i have to start planning my shark lagoon soon!!! i put all the sand from my 240gallon in the trash can so its a whole bunch of fine sugar sand ( not sure what type) and misc shells and tiny rocks.. the rest i gave to someone.

Wow, I'd like to bet you would have some major trouble just trying to get nitrates! From what I have read, a deep sandbed like that is extremely beneficial in NNR, (Natural Nitrate Reduction) which it seems that alot of people have trouble with. :) I always preach "lotta rock, lotta sand" IMO the best thing you can add to a tank. How big is that Lion?

BA

he is a little over a foot, maybe 14 inches. Ya that DSB in the trashcan is AMAZING. with all the big fish in my tank i always thought i would have problems, but i have never had a problem with nitrates much, especially after the trashcan. Ever since the addition of that trashcan after about a month, the nitrates have been UNtraceable. i never pick up any luckily, i think it was one of the best additions i have ever done
