Well, like everything else, nothing works right for me :D LOL All in good stride though...
Its a used Icecap. I am trying to run two lights. Wont work with 72 or 48 inch bulbs It comes on for a second, or more like flashes on, then goes off and doesnt do anything after that. Any suggestions? The harness looks pretty ragged and wondering about needing to replace that. Dont want to replace it though if someone thinks its the ballast and not the wires.
I should have just bought a new one... I am never buying anything used again. Agghhh I have the worst luck in the world!

Hmmm, How many feet of bulb does it say it will run on the ballast? I dont remember off hand. It sdounds like it could be the ballast, or, it could be a loose wire in the connector or the endcaps..... Might want to check these out before ditchin the ballast...

It probably just a connection. Also if one of your bulbs is blown it will just blink. If you find thst you have a bad end cap lmk b/c I have some extras I think....

If the bulbs are flickering on then its a connection issue. Icecaps are the best for troubleshooting because if the ballast comes on at all then its OK. Do you have a multimeter? If you do its easy to check the harness for continuity and find a loose/broken wire. Make sure you wiggle the harness are you check them to find broken wires. If the harness checks out it could be your ballast. I just dealt with a bad T5 on my icecap 430 that I figured out AFTER I switched ballasts!!! Go buy 2$ 4 foot t12s at home depot to be sure you have a good bulb.

Its suppose to run two six foot bulbs. I am on reefcentral looking around. I found a page that icecap linked to. Alot of reading and technical stuff, that I am having my brother do, that is suppose to tell you if its the ballast or not.
Only one bulb flashes, and not the other. In the page I am looking at, it says if both flash, its the ballast. If only one, then it says to read below, and that is where you have to use some OHM meter and do all these tests.
On a side note, has anyone sent in a 660 ballast?

Ive sent in two 430's and they both run perfectly now... I still suspect the connector since you said that the harness was kinda ragged... Wiggle the wires and see if anything happens...

I have an icecap 660. You could bring yours over and i'll switch harnesses over to test your ballast.

If I cant find anyone in Killeen or Harker heights or in the area, I might take you up on that.
I am calling people now trying to find someone with a 660.

Icecap is VERY good about testing your ballast, repairing (if necessary) and returning.

Make sure the bulbs are seated correctly inside the endcaps. If they are loose at either end the bulbs will flash and turn off.

If I send it in, its 65 plus parts. I could have bought a new one for that plus what I already payed for it.
We will see if I can figure out if its the ballast or maybe its the wire harness... and go from there.

Can we just try this one on yours? All that needs to be done is hook ur setup up to the ballast, if it lights up, then its the wires/harnesss. If it doesnt light up, then its the ballast.
I will get with you tommorrow. Jill
