View Full Version : Wanted some lighting opinions!

I have a new 75g tank that I am not sure if I want to go with a canopy or open top. I have a great recommendation from CPReefguy for a canopy set, I just wanted to get some other peoples opinions. I plan to have a mixture of corals to include SPS, as well as clams. I plan to keep this set up on my 75g, so it will not need to be upgraded or transferred over to a bigger tank later on. I will just start from scratch when I go bigger. TIA!

2x250w 12k Reeflux in Lumenarc reflectors with T5 actinic supplementation :D

If it were me, I would go open top with 2x250w w/ lumenarc reflectors with maybe a 15k or 20k bulb depending how much blue you like. Will help cut down on the heat a bit to have an open top.

I have the exact set up Sean recommended ,except with 20K Helios, on my tank (70 gal) and I have the Icecap ballast!!! I have excellent growth and wonderful color.

Thats what I was thinking as well with the heat. Only problem, is it would be a fixture that sits on top, not hanging from the ceiling, as this isn't my house and it usually takes me a few times to hang thing lol

You could use wall hangers to mount them.

My lumenarcs sit perfectly on top of my canopy and the t-5's are fitted inside.

Ok, so if I go with a canopy, I will obviously go with Sean and others recommendation. After long searches, my alternative would be this fixture to keep my top open. This fixture seems to have great reviews and has pretty much everything included. It is the 250x2 with T-5 actinics for 716 total watts over my 75g. What do ya'll think?
