So I drove all the way to the other side of town to check out Wolf Reef for the first time with a friend of mine. Got there and was checking out stock and what not. Found a rock that had some separation in the middle, where it could be broke off as a frag. The top piece had some nice Zoa's that I wanted, but there were different color zoa's on the bottom piece that I didn't want, along with some pallies. So I asked if they could break the piece off and sell it to me. So thinking, ok, either they will and I can buy it, or they won't and no big deal, as that's what I kind of expect. My answer was, "Well I could if I wanted to, but I don't feel like it". My buddy looked at me like OMG and we promptly left after that. So my first time there, became my last.

I can understand your frustration, but if you dealt with Ed it can be understood. If you read below in the sponsor section, they are know as phenomenal aquatics, and you will see that he has just come out of surgery. If it wasn't him is is probably someone he has there to just keep the doors open.

Wolf is the best store in the city for liverock hands down, no questions asked, and they are straight with you about their fish. They don't try to force them on you and they let you know when a fish is and isn't eating, and advise you to wait on it.

I walked in and purchased some rock from there and was describing my tank to a customer in the store, Ed notice the dimensions and let me know he had a great light for it. He sold it to me for 1/2 off the retail price and it was new in the box.

Sorry you had a bad experience, but that is the only store I take advise from here in SA.

Actually, I know who Ed is from a while back and it was not him. It was a woman working there. Do not know her or ever seen her before. Maybe I will try again once he is back....not sure.

Why is it that if someone posts about a negative experience, or what they felt was a negative experience, it is considered "slamming" them? With all the good experiences, there are sometimes bad experiences, it's inevitable.

FSU posted about an unusual response from someone working at an LFS. As he stated, if the person had just said no, he would have been ok with it. But she gave a somewhat poor response and he was shocked and left. Pretty simply story, I don't see where he was "slamming" anyone.

not trying to jack a thread but i remember once when i went to wolf's for the first time and left because i saw wires haging(fire waiting to happen) and lights off over certain tanks. i was in there for a few seconds and left but after a couple of weeks went back and they had some nice pieces of rock and coral and now i try going there before i go anywhere else due to his prices and how his employees are. they are real nice peolpe that try to joke around and make it a good experience for you if anything i would say give them one more try and try going on a day he gets shipment or has a sale best time to go. just try to go early so you get the good stuff.

I am by NO MEANS trying to humiliate or slam ANYONE. I had a bad experience and that's all it was. Other people like going there and want to do business with them and I have no problem with that. I DID have a bad experience and being my FIRST time there, I will more than likely not go back. This does include the fact of the location of the store and that I live in Universal City.

Also, I haven't been on the boards for a long time, however, a lot of people still know me. The people that DO know me, also have seen me post in here for good experiences as well, so it's not like I am picking my "ONLY" bad experience and posting about it. Besides, I thought "vendor experiences" were for good and bad experiences with a company that had been dealt with. To me, it doesn't matter whether it's a sponsor or not.

Lastly, as the poster stated above, I am NOT slamming or trying to slam anyone. So all the pm's that I have been receiving about deleting my post or I shouldn't be posting and slamming a sponsor, or I should have pm'ed Ed instead is BS. Not trying to be an ***, but if you don't like it, don't read it. While some of you are trying to stick up and make excuses: "bad day, she was kidding" and so forth, I was not the only one there that heard her tell me this or think in ANY way that she could be joking. This was MY experience my FIRST time there. It was by no means a good one.

Well I was in there when he asked that...I was looking at some rock, and just so happened to hear the comment. And he is right, she wasn't kidding. She was not trying to reach in there and break him off that peice. And I too am over here near Universal City, so it is a couple of minutes out of my way, but will go back there to search for that large peice of rock......i'll get lucky one of these days... :)

totally agree. i work at petco and it does not matter if in the mood or not you do what you can for the customer and hope you gain a new one. customers are the ones that pay for your job in LFS and any job really without them your out of a job

rick, sorry you feel like you cant post positive and negative experiences - that is certainly not the case. this is for all vendor experiences, and negative posts will also help the vendors (even if they are sponsors) improve thier service.

I wasn't necessarily trying to "vent". I was just stating a bad circumstance that I had and some people are blowing it out of proportion.

I understand where your coming from and the circumstance of what happened. You told your story, add you want to go back when ed is there. Thats the only time I go. Good luck in future visits cause it really a good place with good prices.

Ok, so if you walked on to a car lot and asked them to break off one tire that would be ok? Come on guy. We try to help as much as possible, but sometimes it just doesn't work out. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I am sorry that you wern't able to get your frag, but when Jennifer is working she makes the rules. I am unable to work right now, and wont be able to make it back for another week or so. Jennifer now not only has the dutys of selling the livestock in the store, but also doing water changes, cleaning up, feeding fish, etc. I can understand if she was hesitant to break up the coral. Also the fact that the coral is extremely poisonus is also a consideration, not to mention the fact that injuring the coral could have caused further damage. I am sure that Jennifers comments were just her dry sense of humor. We try to keep a relaxed environment at the store. After all it is just a fish store. If you can't understand this philosiphy you are in the hobby for the wrong reasons. I am sorry that you had a bad experience. I invite you to come back in the next week or two when we get back to our regular schedule. We should have lots of zoas and palys comming mid-week. I think all of our zoas and palys are priced around 20 bucks anyway.

Ed, plz reread my original post. You make comparisons to a car dealership, which in my opinion is a VERY bad analogy. Fragging is part of the hobby, where taking tires off a car is not. Again, plz reread my original post. It CLEARLY stated

"So thinking, ok, either they will and I can buy it, or they won't and no big deal, as that's what I kind of expect."

That should say it all right there. As for her having a dry sense of humor? Maelv is the 3rd of four people in the store at the time. Maelv, his buddy (I assume), myself and my buddy. Three people that didn't take it as she was kidding. It's not the point that she didn't or wouldn't do it. I didn't expect her to, but theres no harm in asking. It's the rude attitude I didn't appreciate. So to say in similar words as you did, if you can't understand this philosophy, then YOUR in the wrong business.

I am getting ready to graduate with my degree in Business Mgt. One of the things they preach and lecture on over and over is customer satisfaction, customer service, and customer relations. Well, 0/3.

I think this should be the end of this, lets not turn it into a full bown argument.

"Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I am sorry that you wern't able to get your frag"
