Actinics

Just curious if anybody has switched from VHO to T-5 actinics and what the major differences are in appearence when using them along side 10k halides. Good side by side comparison pics would be sweet.

Don't have any pics but, I'm using HO T5 Giesemanns on my new tank. 2x Actinic + and 2x Pure Actinic. GREAT color out of those bulbs, I love 'em.

Whats the main difference between these two bulbs? Do you know the wavelengths by chance?

the pure actinic are closer to 420nm (pink bulbs), and I'm pretty sure the actinic + are at around 460 nm (they're BLUE)
Both bulbs have a fairly wide actinic spectrum, but it gives nice color balance, and hopefully will allow me to run a growth halide bulb but keep nice color

I guess my question is how do the T-5's compare to VHO's visualy as far as bringing the colors out.

Don't know a whole lot first hand but through reading and seeing others tanks...it seems like T5s are closer to metal halides than vhos. Some are using t5s exclusively and doing away with halides. On an sps tank, I would probably go with halides with t5s.

Jim,
I will be using the ATI pro color T5s and the ATI super actinic T5s. You get from 420 to 460 with these. The pro is reddish and the super is purple. I will have 14 T5 bulbs along with the 4-250 w DE on my 280. To me the benefit of the T5 over the VHO is the individual reflectors. I think you loose some of the light from the vho or it doesn't make it to the tank. I love the T5s.

well i know i switched from power compact to t5 and i like the results alot better, light is alot brighter even after i have lower watts from the t5 but is still looks brighter and color is 100% better!!!

Full spectrum bulb characterized by its deep red color section in the 650 - 720 nm range

The ATI comes in a super actinic or is it a True Actinic 03
or is there no defrence ?

My mistake about the pro color, it is the higher spectrum but it does wonders for the coral colors.

im just trying to throw a good combo of atitics together so many options with T5 so is that rout your going ATI Pro Color T5HO and ATI True Actinic 03 T5HO sounds like a good combo full range there and i bet good color

T5 have so many ways to get good spectrum set ups its hard to pick so many neat ways

Yeah, my T5's are actinic only, and I've yet to pick a MH bulb. thinking Ushio 10k, reeflux 12k or Phoenix 14K

I liked the way the 12K look, just a little more blue to them. Then again I'm running Hamilton 14Ks at the moment and have been for a few years now with VHO actinic support.

Hey, I'm with you Jim, I still love the 10K's as well with alot of actinic. You get really good color with really good growth.
