JBJ Chiller constantly chilling.... any ideas?

We have a JBJ chiller on our 24G Nano setup and it won't stop chilling. The light on the chiller shows it is in the "alarm" state and not the "cool" state, but it doesn't stop chilling... anybody seen this or have any ideas on what to do? We have unplugged the chiller for the time being and the temperature of the tank is around 80-83 degrees, would prefer it be more on the 76-78 degree side.

Short of calling JBJ, I wanted to see if any experienced people out there had any ideas what is happening.

how old is it? maybe it needs to be charged (with refrigerant)?

Im wondering why your tank is running so warm in the first place. My 29g Bio Cube closed tightly without a heater stayed a constant 78. Never fluctuated at all except during the obvious water change. I do not think you should even use a chiller on that tank. Do you have the stock lid on top with the fans? If so why not get a more powerful fans and replace the stock ones, i belive that would definately help. If you are running a small MH raise the lid and attach a small clip fan and that will do the trick.

The lid is stock and contains the stock bulbs in as well... not MH. It does contain a heater in the tank but should not be on during high temperature operation, but will unplug just to be sure.

Also would to the first response, the chiller is only 6 months old and if it needed refrigerant, would it chill at all in the first place... why would it keep getting colder?

I had a chiller controller that went bad on me at one point and both the chiller and heater section stayed on until I caught it. The chiller won on this count but it's alarm was going off during this time. I didn't catch it right away because it sits in the garage with my sump.

Yeah sounds like the temp controller may be out of whack. Is it built in on the chiller or does it use a external probe?

It is built into the chiller. I guess I may have to call JBJ after all.
