I've not much film at the surface, but even alittle irritates me so how does one do the cassette mod? I haven't found this in detail yet. Thanks.

ive seen that on nano forums before but dont recall ever seeing it here
any chance you can point a powerhead toward the top to create a little turbulence? not much is needed

Yeah I should probably just aim them towards the surface...

not necesarily "them", it only takes one
just take one and point it up a little until you see a little turbulence, i think it will cure your problem
i have two koralias in my 30 cube and this method works for me, its not flawless but it keeps the surface gunk down to a tolerable level

I dont know how they do the diy mod, other than just cut out the slats. But they sell them at a few on-line sites. I'll see if I cant turn one up. OK found lots. Just google nano modular surface skimmer, Drs Foster has 'em for $3.99.

The cassette mod is actually using the outer part of the cassette case and not the part of the case that the cassette slides into. Take that piece and put it over your intake grate with the 2 arms sticking out of the water, slide it up and down to where you want your water level to be, the pressure of the water from the tank flowing into the grate will hold the cassette case in place. When you find what level you want the water level at clip the 2 leg pieces sticking out of the water. If you want to get fancy you can cut slats into it and all kinds of stuff.
