Is making a needlewheel into a meshwheel really worth it on a euroreef? I wouldn't think so because the mesh would get clogged with detritus fast. Also, I bought my euroreef used from sombody, and there are a couple of broken needles. Would it really be worth replacing the needlewheel, or not really?

It wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the impeller if some of it has broken off. That usually indicates that something got caught up in the pump and broke some of it off. Make sure to clean out the pump really well in any case, just to make sure there isn't still something rattling around in there

I was tempted to just add some mesh to the existing needle wheel on mine but without tearing up the impeller. Just push the mesh onto the existing impeller and tie it on without taking off the needles. Worth a try if you can find the mesh (which I wasn't able to).

Does the Budweiser come with it?

I just bought some mesh off of EBay. It was $6 including shipping. I'd include the link...but I'm at work and EBay is restricted.

I haven't done the mesh mod. I agree that a new needlewheel would be a good idea.

Have you done the gate valve mod? I recently did the gate valve mod on my CS8-2 and carefully opened up the air tube with a 3/16" bit and it has made a huge difference.

the gate mod makes a huge difference in controlling the way your skimmer works. I highly recommend getting one.

Does anybody know by chance where you can buy just the end section of the needle wheel portion, the plastic part with the pins. I got the stuff from Paul (thanks again byt the way) but just bought this impeller and am a little aprehensive. Wouldn't mind as much if you could get just the plastic end piece.

So what IS the gate mod, anyway? I know the mesh mod, and the recirc-feed mod, but not the gate valve mod.

Here is a link that shows how ASM does the gate valve mod. Works the same way on the ER.

Don't know where you'd find just the needlewheel pins. They are supposed to be made by ER and therefore would not be readily available. The impeller gets a lot of mods done by ER to accept their wheel.
