I have moved houses, and of course upgraded the tank(!). When I reached for something under the sink, I noticed that the pipes that deliver water to the sink are made of copper. I have already filled my tank with this water. Is it possible that there are traces of copper within the water?

Most houses have copper pipe to supply water throughout the house. Only the drain lines are PVC. On new houses they are using a new plastic tubing instead of copper as it is much less expensive due to copper prices going through the roof. You and your tank are safe.

the new plastic tubbing that the builders are using is called raus I believe and its got a lot of improvements over copper, but most if not all homes do have copper going into the home...

I think that's probably one brand name for it. I had to replace a hot water line that was leaking under my slab and I ran a new line using the plastic tubing through my attic. I think the plumber that recommended I use it called it Pex. It comes in red to signify hot water, blue to signify cold water, or white. It would have cost me probably $250 if I had done it with copper pipe, but I did it for like $65 using the plastic tubing that I was able to buy at Lowe's.

Did you run your tap water through an RO or RODI?
