I've been out of the hobby for two years but I'm looking to get back into it with a nano tank. I'll probably go with one of the larger 24 or 29 gallon setups but I wanted to check and see if there is a general consensus on which is the best and which to stay away from. So far I'm considering the JBJ 24, the Aquapod 24, and he Oceanic 29. Ultimately I'll be getting back into SPS and maybe clams. I know the larger the better. My last tank was an Oceanic 42 +/- cube and I had great success. I will probably go with one of the HQI light setups. If there are a ton of threads on the topic of good/bad nano tanks please just point me to them. I searched and didn't find.
Thanks,
adam

See what you want to do to mod it and that should help make the decision for you. I think that straight out of the box, the Oceanic BioCubes have the lead, but as far as available mods and upgrades, the JBJ NanoCube probably has the edge.

just pick whatever size tank you want and buy whatever skimmer and lights you want for it. you will probly come out cheaper and better quality this way. i like the 20L and 40 breeders

Like Tony said, the best nano is a custom nano. Find out what size tank you want and go from there. Ive had a few all-in-one nano tanks, and I end up modding them beyond recognition.
I have found that a 24" tank is a good place to start since there are many more lighting systems made in that length.
Plus, you can decide if you want to put a false wall in like the all-in-ones to run your filtration, or you can drill it and add a sump, etc...
If youre set in an all-in-one type of tank, I would highly sugest that you check into Finnex tanks. Ive had mine for over a year and I still love it. Great build quality, great customer service, and theyre geared towards people who are looking to stock their tank with a variety of animals, ie SPS, LPS, Softies, Clams
Hope this helps

Also, euro-reef is coming out with an awesome all-in-one that I/we saw at MACNA. It is rimless, and has a false wall with all of the filtration, including a micro sized euroreef skimmer! It also had another layer to the false wall that was a reservoir for the built in auto top off that it had :D
These are Melev's pics, I cant find mine:

Thanks for the great feedback. I will look into the Finnex and Oceanic. I've been seriously considering just setting up another cube with my own skimmer and light, probably would be cheaper in the long run.

30 gallon Finnex m-tank is looking pretty good right now. Not sure that I would need a 250w HQI light though. Seems like 150 w/ the t5 actinics would be plenty, still about 6 watts per gallon and I'm sure much of the tank capacity is taken up by the filter

On my finnex m tank, the filter takes up just about 3.5" of space

that makes it about a 26 gallon tank.
Anybody know a good place to buy glass locally? I think it would be easier to just build my own. I've worked with acrylic plenty but I think I'm going to go with glass because it's so much cheaper.

I currently have a Finnex M-tank and am very happy with it, with Finnex you primarily pay for the lighting and the tank cost like $100. You may want to wait and see Deep Sea's Neo Nano which should be out in a couple of days.
