If I were to cut out the teeth on my built-in overflows, would that lower the water level in the tank?

The water level is currently 5/8 in. above the bottom of the teeth. I was thinking that, if I could lower the water level a bit, then I could open my return pump all the way and it would bring me back to where I was. (As it stands right now, the water hits the glass brace in the middle of the tank when I open the pump all the way. I don't think that's a problem, I just don't like the way it looks.) I have gutter gaurd covering the top of the overflows so that critters can't get in. Seems like this would work. I'm thinking I should just lower them a little bit at a time and see what happens. With my luck, I'd lower the water level too much

(Re-doing the plumbing didn't work, so I'm looking for other options.)

What do you guys think?

You can just cut some teeth out.

What about widening them a bit instead of lowering them more?

i agree widening them would be as effective and maybe a little easier.

I think my hand-held grinder will work best if I just cut the teeth out. I think I'll try it this weekend.

Don't drop it in while plugged in. Might even think about rigging up a hand strap like for a camera.

I didn't drop the grinder, and it worked like a charm!

Almost freaked when I turned the pump back on, though. For a second there I thought I cut them too low so that the water line would be visible. Turned out great, though.
