This is one of the first corals I got a few years back. I think I got it from someone who lives in La Vernia. I traded it for a Nintendo DS. Anyway, what is it? I thought it was a plate montipora, but as you can see it just grows along the rocks and up the glass. Could it be an encrusting? I want the space back for some sps. Should I break it up or just leave it. It is over a 18" from end to end. It covered a pavona and now is pushing against some corals. You can see that it is trying to cover up the zoos on the bottom right corner.

WOW!! That is massive. Very impressive coral. I think it looks great as is but it will just keep getting bigger. Id frag the parameter.

It looks like it needs it's own tank!

You should post more pics of your tank amd submit them for TOTM!

From the looks of it I would say it is a monti capricornis, becaus of the small ledges sticking out. They grown dpending on the flow. Monit denae or encrusting monti generally don't grow as fast. Awsome looking coral, but caps can takeover a tank if left unchecked. I had one that grew the same way and I would just frag the edges that weren't attached to anything.

If you are going to frag it I will take a piece. I have some orange cap I can trade you. I will be at the meeting LMK
Thanks

Hey, it's looking pretty good. It grows fast doesn't it? That was a frag you got from me.
It's a monti cap. Definitely frag it as you need to, just break it off from the edges.

Beautiful piece! Let's see some full tank shots please :D
From what I can see so far, this looks like TOTM material!

I got a new camera so I will take some shots soon. Jeffco I still have some of the corals I got from you. My favorite was the birdsnest that I lost. It was huge and a tangle of ****es. I lost a lot of corals when my house was flooded.

That's too bad, I feel for you, know what it's like to lose alot of corals. If you ever make it back my way again, I can give you another piece of the birds nest. It's huge in my tank.

JC, thanks again for that awesome coral. I hope it grows just like yours! My fish need a plate to eat off, since they are so messy.
