the ti83 is your best calculator if need for college algebra, or high math course. other courses might require something different. so if it were me i would go with the ti83.
(I go to UIW)
heres this info if needed
if taking science course go with a ti30 one of your only allowed calculators allowed to be used during test. at least at UIW.

ti-89 titanium and up is the best because they have memory in them for notes!...and they do everything for you as far as calculus, algebra, etc

As a math teacher, I would tell you to remember that a calculator is only a tool. It is not a substitute for understanding.

That is, you can get ALL the answers correct with a calculator that does everything for you. But, what good is it if you don't understand what it all means?

Don't get me wrong, I love my TI 84+. It can do just about anything I need right now, or anything I might need in the future. But, I appreciate what it does because if I had to, I could to it all like I learned......by hand, the long way.

I'd get either an 83+ or and 84+. Really not much of a difference in how they work. I think the 84+ has a little more memory, though.

i agree with having to learn it by hand that how most of my teachers teach. my teachers for probability and statistics, and calculus always said compare calculator by the back of the package and see which calculator can do what and its stated on the back of the package.
