Hoping for a "convict" goby (i.e. engineer), which will still get way too big.

I have one of those but i ended up shutting it down and upsizing. All I had in mine was a few hermit crabs and a tiny dime sized emerald crab which I never saw, he hid all the time. I did put a tiny green chromis in it (i know too big but oh well ) but he jumped, whoops.

Check out some of the small gobies that are perfect for nano's. For a tank that small there are a few fish that fit the bill but not a lot. Live aquaria has a category just for nano fish.

A group of sexy shrimp in one of those are really cute, and that works out really well since you rarely get an oppurtunity to watch them in something larger... JMO

I got a jbj 3 gallon tank for xmass. I am going to get 4 lbs of the walts coming into wolf reef tomorrow. and then a ric, some soas and a couple of mushrooms. once that is all set, I am going to get one of those tiny gobies to drop in there. The tank is really nice.

A convict tang????
Nano???
I was under the impression that a nano was a type of tank (small, compact, and acrylic) as well as a brand name... But anyway! My 'deco' I guess. :-)

is it possible to have a high fin red banded goby with a tiger pistol shrimp in one of these deco 3 kits?

I put a highfin banded in my jbj pico. He jumped out in 1 hour.

because you spooked him or the tank was too small? I know they'll jump if spooked.

I wouldn't try it personally because of the jump risk, but I have seen them in picotopes before.

Doesn't the deco 3 have a top over it?

Ya, the Deco has a lid on it, but I just really like the glass tank. My JBJ looks great, but I haven't put anythiing else in it is we will see. I have a red leg, a blue leg, and 2 cone snails in their. I bought a green clown goby to put in there, but i had him in a floating breader tank in my main, and he got loose. Now he is in there to stay. I really want to put a catalina goby in there, but they are pretty expensive and I don't want it to just jump out the day I get it.

Catalinas have a higher mortality rate than other gobies from what ive read and heard. They are from the waters of Catalina island which is off the coast of California where the water is COLD. They prefer much colder water. Between 68-72 is best and its really difficult to get our tanks that low and keep the temp stable.

I may be wrong, but I thought I read they could live ok in 74 degree water. w/o my heater on this pico tank, my temp stays at 74(the temp I keep my house). The lighting is so far above the water line and doesn't affect the temperature but maybe .5 to 1 degree. I don't know, I really want a fish in there, but I don't want one that is too big, or a jumper. Someone recomended putting mesh on top, but that then ruins the look of the tank. Maybe, I should talk to Ace about cutting and routing a piece of acrylic to sit on top. It would be good for slowing evaporation as well.

Ive read that they might do OK in temps up to 75, but not great. Heres a link to the pico tank section thats on nano-reef.com you may be able to get some good ideas from these guys

Thanks! I was think that the temp will probably go up if I top it so the Catalina is probably out of the question.
