I'm copying coraline 79's post (sorry). My Corolife Superskimmer (I know ... it's a sucky skimmer ... but it's what I can do for now) doesn't seem to skim like it used to. I've already taken it out of the sump and rinsed the heck out of it with very little improvement. Is there a way to modify it to make it work better?

What model is it? If you google it there are tons of mods. I had a CSS65 and a CSS220 and loved them both. Take the impeller out and clean inside the motor housing well too. Also, the inlet for the pump. There are a ton of impeller mods... I think for the price they are pretty good, but I did have to adjust mine frequently before I got an auto-top off. ATO is the way to go. It should help keep the water at a consistent level, which with those skimmers is important.

I'm not sure ... It must be model 125, because I remember getting one rated for a larger tank than I've got. Yea ... No ATO (auto top off?) yet. That's on the list ... but I essentially buy new stuff twice a year ... it's on a long list. I'll check out Google ... thanks:)

Keep the pump around 2" underwater. That's where most of the nasties are floating around. Make sure to keep that water level consistent as much as possible. I kept my waterline in the skimmer about 1 1/2" below the actual cup. Not much collects in the cup, but the entire neck would be filthy and make me gag every time I would clean it.

O.K. I keep seeing pictures of other skimmers with thick foam by the cup-load and have been pulling my hair out trying to get the same result from mine. The neck on mine gets coated with dark-green muck as well. I usually have to use a rag to clean it out.
