You have to probably ask someone to find it. They keep moving it at my store from endcap to endcap. The brand name is EDOMAE. It's used for sushi wraps. My store used to have it at the seafood area, but now it's on the endcap for the aisle with all of the odd foods.

if you look around for an asian food market, you can get it even cheaper than as HEB, and they usually have several different kinds.

there are a couple of asian markets in the pat booker road area in north SA

Also, be careful that you don't pick up any nori that's been seasoned. As hobo said, the asian food stores are a good place to pick it up for cheap. It's also the perfect location to find fish roe too.

As far as fish roe goes, you use it to feed your corals correct? Is there anything to watch out for when buying that?

Noodle

Yep -- flying fish roe (tobiko) for the fish, corals, and 'nems.
I make sure roe is bright (w/o food colorings), no strange food additives. To be doubly sure it's clean, I usually rinse/strain the roe in either saltwater or rodi water (whichever is handiest :)) before feeding.

Not all HEB's have it. The one by my house has an Asian food section, but no nori for some reason.

If you are still trying to find it in a store, you can also try Wal-Mart. I was shopping late tonight and decided to check their "Asian" food section. They had 1 brand of dried seaweed and it was $1.98 for 20 sheets that are 8" x 4". Not as a good of a deal as the website Bill posted, but still better than what it costs at an LFS.

Will this stuff break up like the Ocean Nurrition does?

I have picke up some dry kelp at the asian markert here in Austin. I have to soak for several days in tank water to make it soft. It seems to do ok but a little tuff.

Fish have no problem demolishing it, right out of the bag. It holds together ok, but as they tear it up and drag it around the tank, they take it apart. I'd say it's about perfect.

For those in the windcrest area, the HEB over here has it. In fact if anyone wants some, I have atleast 5 packs of the stuff that I'm willing to part with as I no longer have a tank up.

erikharrison

Wrap itup like a paper football and affix it to your veggie clip with the pointed end out. It's alot harder for tangs to rip to shreds.

dapettit
Mon, 14th Jan 2008, 02:51 PM
I'll try that. Roght now its just swirls around the tank and nobody seems to be intreseted in it.

Use a veggie clip or rubberband it to a rock.

In my tank, it lasts about 20 seconds... It's like watching piranhas eating a cow on TV...

That's why I use the paper footbal fold! They rip and tear at the base of any shape that I put in there. I used to roll it up as tight as possible, but they had it shredded in a few minutes. Now I just barely get it wet and fold it up. ALL of my fish go nuts over it.

I spent $36.00 not including shipping for 1000 1/2 sheets. That's .036 cents per sheet which will last over 2.5 years if you feed 1 sheet everyday.

Ocean Nutrition Bulk Seaweeds Green Marine $30.00 not including shipping (0nline) for 50 Sheets. That's .60 cents per sheet which will last almost 2 months if you feed 1 sheet everyday.

Is it any good. Seems to be since alot of the folks here use it.

I'm assuming I can freeze this to keep fresh.

Bill S
Mon, 14th Jan 2008, 05:59 PM
It comes in sealed packs. Shouldn't be a need to freeze, but that's not a bad idea.

Anyone interested in a goup buy? Not worried about the price, just didn't want to go 2.5 years to go through it. That doesn't seem like it could be good for that long.

Want to go 1/2 on it? When I get paid on Friday we can go half if you want.... It totals to 44 with shipping so we can each do 22 and still last over a year... The ones at the lfs last me about 1 week and its $5 so if we do that thats like... $0.34/week instead lol. Your counting the sheets though, haha jk....

I live off 183 and Oak Knoll. I normally don't get home until after 7:00. So some time after that during the week, or this weekend. I think half of my half would be $11.00. PM me and I'll send you my cell #.
