I currently have a prism skimmer on my 49 gallon bowfront and am not happy with the performance of it.

Is there anyone out there that is using a backpack skimmer that they like? That would be fit for a 50 gallon tank.

Thanks

Jason

i ran one for about a year on my 30 cube and loved it. i actually just replaced it this past saturday with a deltec.

if you plan on buying new, i would get the octopus version of it. i think it out performs it for the same price.

if you find a good deal on a used backpack, i wouldnt hesitate a second on buying it

I have a 55 galloon and I use the coralife super skimmer. I love the way it works. Here is a link to the one I got. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=13924

Hope this helps.

It would be a bigger skimmer for sure to handle a 55 gallon tank, but if you're doing it...I suggest a little bit of a modification to it. I don't know how you feel about bio balls, and bio media, but I personally hate the nitrate factory side of them.

On my seahorse tank, I removed the bio stuff in the bakpak and replaced it with chaeto and caulpra. THey sell nice little bright LED lights you can put on the side of it and create a nice little natural filter out of it. The skimming side of it works the same. I have rots, copepods, and all sorts of stuff growing in there...really helps out.
