flower pot frag?

ok, check this out. i have a flower pot polyp and there is one big colony on top and a small colony on the bottom left. the 2 colonies a seperated by rock and i wanted to frag the small part out but don't know how to. if anyone has info let me know how to do this.(and if it needs to be submerged when i do so)

Seperated? My guess is the area in between probably just died off. There really hard to keep alive long term
