Wow. Holy Cow. As Eric at fragfarmers says, these bulbs WILL make your corals "pop". I can't BELIEVE the colors. Here are some pics, it's my lousy appraisal camera, so it really doesn't show all it should....

BTW, this is with NO ACTINIC!!! (and no, no friggin' photoshop either...).

Thanks, Ace, for the photobox for the top-downs. And yes, it seems I DO like blue corals??!!

My only question would be, how well will the corals continue to grow under 20K? I thought they grew faster under 8.5K but stunted and stopped growing under 20K.

That was MY question, too, Mike. But Eric assured me that since they were in the propogation business, they wouldn't be using them if they didn't grow... I guess time will tell.

Wasn't there a specific combination of ballast and light it took to get these? Obviously Ushio bulbs, but what type of ballast/brand is it? The pics look great even though I know that they probably SCREAM color in person.

Just using plain old Coralvue 400w electronic ballasts.

Yeah, the camera REALLY doesn't pick all of the color up right... Especially yellows and reds.

BTW, the last photo is from a VERY stubborn coral I got from CB about 6 months ago. It was bright white with blue tips. It immediately started to RTN, and I cut it back. It survived, but browned out UGLY. It's sloooowwwwwly been making it's way back. It's kind of pink with yellow polyps.

Kevin just came by to pick up a pendant. He says the pix above stink. WAY too blue. Just to set things straight, the tank is NOT too blue!

Yeah those pictures do not do these lights justice! I only hope the 250w DE version will look like that!
