whats up all?

i've been looking into getting a new skimmer. i'm really in need of one. i recently moved everything over to my 55g and i'm still using my seaclone 120...bad bad i know.

i am looking for a better skimmer, but i do not have a sump, nor do i think i'll get one since i'm to afraid of water spilling. with that said i am looking for the best hang-on-back skimmer. i was thinking about the coralife 220g needle wheel skimmer or a AquaC Remora Pro with a rio 1400 or a mag 3. which would be a better option for a HOB or is there a better one? whats the best?

thanks

The Remoras are probably the better of the two. At some point, you will have to rid yourself of the flood fears, if you do things right the chance of a flood is minimal.

Well, "the best" is probably the Deltec MCE600.

Of the two you're looking at probably the Remora PRO with Mag 5, or 7(7 requires a different skimmer cup) upgrade. Problem is then you have a big pump sitting there and they also add heat. DO NOT go with the Rio.

I started with mine HOB and moved it to the sump. Only problem I had (HOB) was once the collection cup overflowed while I was away. Water got into an outlet and made a nice black spot on the wall:) Make sure to have the collection cup drain into a pretty good sized container.

so i was looking at the deltecs and i am only finding it on UK websites.

i looked at the tunze and it looks like a pretty cool skimmer, but from what i'm gathering it sits inside the tank, and i have to much live rock to really put the in there unless i took everything you :(

as far as a sump i'll have to really research into it. i dont even know where to start, so maybe after reading alot more sucess stories instead of the horror stories i'll warm up to the idea lol

Demm, you can buy deltec directly from that site I posted, or, I think Kingfish Aquariums in Austin is a dealer too.

If you didn't, go back to the deltec site on the link and read the two linked articles at the bottom of the page. The author has tried about every kind on the market.

Good deal. If the collection cup isn't ported for a drain, you'll want to do that.

I ran an sps 92g system with a pro and a Mag5 and later a Mag7.

FYI TexasTodd had a tank that everyone drooled over. The first "frag" I ever bought was from Todd. It was over 15" for 35 dollars, lol. Too bad I was a bigger idiot then!

Thanks Erik.

If you're going sps without a refugium I'd go Mad 7.

If you're not doing sps I'd stay Mag 3.
