Does anywhere in San Antonio, preferably on the N or NW side sell this thing? I find it all over the internet but I'm impatient. :bareteeth:

Here's a link to it

The thing with skimmers is this.... you do not want to skimp. Go with a cheapy, you get cheapy results. Not only that, you will have to adjust it daily, and constantly worry about it overflowing, or not skimming.

Oceanic just came out with their new bio cube protein skimmer, i bought one to try out on one of my biocubes and it works really well... better than i thought it would. They are made to fit in the overflow portion of the bio cube but can be used in any tank under 30 gallons.
Also, depending on your tank size, you might think about jsut getting a Coralife Superskimmer to hang on the back. They are a little finicky to get dialed in, but once you do, they'll pull some stuff out

You wont find them in stores anywhere. And I agree with the others that they are worhtless. Sapphire skimmers are the way to go on Nanos IMO, but again you can only buy online.

Hmmm....you have a link to these?...specifically the Oceanic. This is going on a Biocube 14

it will fit where you usually slide in the replacement cartridge. you'll quit using those and use this instead. Came pretty much ready to go.

Thanks for the heads up. I just called Texas Tropical here by my work & they have the Oceanic one yall reccommended in stock. Gonna pick one up tonite. Anything I need to know about setting one up for the first time?

PS. I will no longer need my cartridge filter? What do you mean "pretty much ready to go"...do I need something else?

No, everything you need is in the box, you just have to hook up the airline tubing. It's really simple. You'll quit using the filter cartridge when you start using the skimmer. I didn't use them before I got the skimmer to be honest with you...

Ok I got the Oceanic skimmer & I'm setting the airflow per the instructions, but the cup is filling too fast with water from the mist as the bubbles pop. Is there a break-in time period for the airstone?

just dial down the valve until the foam is just below the collection cup.

rio nano skimmer is the one Aquaruim Design has them in stock. I have one and it rocks. If you want the oceanic on, they have it as well for 34.99 the rio is 39.99.

Hmm...its been over 24 hours & I can't figure this thing out. My tank has been running only for about 2 weeks now...its a Biocube 14 with 10lbs live sand, 15-20 lbs live rock, 2 damsels. Either I see nothing at all in the catch-cup or if I crank up the air a little it fills with clean water from the bubble mist within a few hours. Will a new tank that is still cycling do this to a protein skimmer?

i have no experience with that particular one but it takes most skimmers quite a few days to break in and actually pull skimmate

be sure and clean it well, and if it has a venturi run water through it. also let it skim a few cups of water. also if it is a venturi style, make sure you add some sort of fine tuning(airvalve-.99)

Also, set it very low. It may take till overnight till you see some skimmate, possibly longer depending on bioload. It's been two days since I set my Euro Reef to a drier setting and I have 1/2" of skimmate in the cup.

It has a airvalve already for fine tuning, that's what I've been adjusting. I guess I'll give it a few more days.

yeah, leave it set to where the bubbles are popping into the collection cup, but not to where it's filling it that rapidly. as said above, skimmers have a break in period -a few days is a good rule of thumb- and then you'll see good results. Also, a lot of skimmers take almost a day or so after being shut off for a period of time to "re-prime" for lack of a better word.
