I have been trying for 6 months to get rid of green hairy algea to no avail. Any ideas what will work? Thanks for the help.:mad:

emerald crab or take out rock and brush it with a tooth brush unless you pick it off by hand
i've never tried the sea hare

I have the same problem with this same algae. I have been told a tang should work, so will a sea hare. I tried the sea hare and had hit and miss results with it. I'm going to try a tang and see what happens from there. Also you might want to try a UV sterilizer cause it will kill the spores of the algae. It will also kill any other problems that live in the water. Also it will give your water a more bluish color. Also becareful with the brush you might kill of some of the beneficial bacteria off your rock giving the rock a "sulphur" smell. Cause I made that same mistake also.

Sea hares are good workers, and make sure you have plenty of snails and hermit crabs to help you keep it away once you've got it under control. Some urchins are really good at mowing stuff down, but they're clumsy and can knock stuff over if it's not glued down.
