Should I seal my "new" tank?

I bought a 65 gallon oceanic tank a couple of weeks ago. It hasn't been used in 2 years. I have not checked for leaks yet, but is it a good idea to go ahead and reseal it regardless? How long does the silicone need to cure/dry before filling the tank?

If you are going to reseal the tank it needs to cure at least 10 days before you put water in it. the instructions will say full cure in 24 hours but it is not fully cured because it takes longer for the acitic acid that is in the seal to completely dissipate. make sure whatever you are sealing is very clean and use alcohol to clean before sealing (not the drinking kind)

I think I could use the drinking kind while sealing my tank...just not on me not the tank. Better be careful though; I might get tanked! Ok...3 am humor hitting awfully early tonight. Of course I did get up at 4am to take my son to his field trip... but I digress.

Nobody is going to tell you not to reseal it b/c in the very unlikely chance that it leaks, you will be mad at them.

That said, I have three tanks, 135, 55 & 20 that are all more than 12 years old, the 55 is more than 18 years old, and they have moved from Waco to Houston, to Galveston, to Norfolk, to Va Beach, to Dallas and finally to Austin, never been resealed and never leaked.

Just my 2c worth...

I know i have just jinxed myself! Now after saying it, my 135 will drain its contents and kill everything while ruining my floors... =-)
