my back wall is becoming covered with them :)

i know they are good but they will likely have my coraline covered in another month or two

i will get some pics if i ever get my s2 back from the gf or my macro lens for the 30d back from a friend :(

yeah im definitely not complaining and none are near corals. according to melev if they are ever un-submerged they will die instantly and could foul my tank though and they are growing mostly on the back glass so that is definitely a concern

i'd just keep an eye on them and if they start creeping towards your corals or up near the trim of the tank you could cut them back (underwater), bag them (underwater) and sell/donate them to someone wanting to make their angels spoiled for a day

oh, or figure out what type they are and get a corresponding sponge eating nudibranch... they're beautiful and with the sponge you could keep one successfully more than a month...

I have a few sponges growing also. All were live rock hitchhikers. Some green, some red, but mostly white and growing in my Remora protein skimmer. It could probably stand to be cleaned, but I get fairly consistent skimmate even though its not as dry as I would like.

Yeah, I'd proably get rid of them from the skimmer... too much air in there would kill them then could funk up your tank...

I'm a huge fan of sponges. I once mentioned I had a few growing and was quickly tols it was a sign of to much phosphate in my water. Something to think about.

Wow...I'm so glad to read this thread. I've pretty new to the hobby and just noticed sponges popping up in about five different places in our 100 gallon tank. I wasn't sure if I needed to worry about it or not.

You guys keep referring to "as long as it's not getting close to the corals" so I have to ask: is it a problem that one of mine is coming up right next to a little mushroom, is actually touching the mushroom? Should I pull it off the rock to allow the little mushroom to grow?

Thanks,
Kristy

it depends on which you like better. personally, i think i might rather have the sponges vs the shrooms
