I am going to buy a controller probably next weds. I am contemplating the RK2 since I have heard nothing but good about it. Are there any other controllers that are in this price range that may offer more than the RK2?

I'm with you Sean on the Profilux. You can do a lot of things with their stuff.

The link works...here it is from the thread on the MAAST Library.

Does anyone know of an AMERICAN distributor that I can look at pricing? :D This will probably be my Christmas present to myself.

So if I start with the basic, I can upgrade until I get all the way to the top? That's what it sounds like.... If so, I think I am going to get it. I remember someone talking about a dimmable MH, I'll have to search the forums for that.

ok so according to this article posted by Michael,
http://maast.org/forums/showthread.php?t=37360&highlight=dimmable
There is a link that Chris posted to some mylar tape
http://www.championlighting.com/home.php?cat=377

I assume that you have to run this tape end to end across the bulb? Doesn't it have to contact the contact points on the bulb itself to allow the bulb to dim without it popping and breaking?

I'm not too sure about the champion lighting thread, but I did figure out the dimmable metal halide ballast for the profilux. After researching and talking to a few people from Profilux in Germany, they are still in the developmental stages of the dimmable metal halide ballast. The only thing on the profilux line that is dimmable, is their t-5 ballast option. Profilux is coming out with their own dimmable ballast. Plus they have LED lighing, which mimics seasons, clouds, and storms.

This is one of the main reasons I want one! I know it sounds dumb to want one for that reason, but MAN, it is waaaaayyyy cool. :)

If you want to simulate the seasons, do as I will be doing. I have 8 14" solatubes to install over my tank. Not sure how much more natural you can get.

lol I live in an apartment. It's awesome that you are going to use those though. I guess you'll be the first MAASTARD with them?
