Shallow Reef Tank Build Thread

FINALLY!!! I decided to get the ball rolling after a few months of other commitments getting in the way of building my tank.

The tank is a rimless 30x30x15 (roughly 58 gallons) tank. The sump will be custom made from one of Melev's models to fit this tank and its equipment perfectly. The stand will be a custom made stand, but it will be a little surprise i will reveal when the stand is done.

The list of equipment:

2x250w AquaMedic Oceanlight HQI Pendants.
Tunze 9005 DOC Skimmer
Tunze Nano Stream 6055 w/single controller for flow.
Sequence Snapper for return..

Im still figuring out which way to go with the Ca. reactor..

Im waiting for stuff to get in the mail and i will post pics as soon as i get everything.

My fish list is short with only 5 fish..but its gonna be full blown SPS and a few inverts.

Im pretty excited and im getting great advice from some of the best people in the hobby..so we'll see how it turns out.

Thanks, we're really excited and have great plans for this tank.. Just bought the tank today but wont be ready for a while. In the mean time, i am going to start the construction of my stand and have the sump built AND buy a few more things i need (RO unit is one of them)..Ill post pictures as it goes along..

Small change. Going with a Snapper (2400 gph) as a return instead of a Dart (3600 gph)...

I was going to recommend the Snapper, since it will still be too much flow! BUt theyre awesome in that you can dial the flow down AND save on energy.
I cant wait to see it when its all done!

Well, i should be receiving some stuff from Oceans Motions along with all the bulkheads.. I still need to pick up a Snapper and an RO unit..

In the mean time im gonna do my research on which rock i want to use... Any suggestions? I was thinking Kaelini (sp?) and some Tonga..(not branch)..

Well, ive been getting stuff in all this week...thought id post some pics..

The Aqua Medic Ocean Light HQI series are really sexy pendants..sleek..cant wait to hang them up..

The Tunze COMLINE DOC Skimmer is really cool as well, just got it in this morning along with the DOC skimmer extension set and the magnetic holder for the skimmer..

Ok..these Aqua Medic Ocean Lights put out some SERIOUS light! Im pretty impressed!

I recieved the Oceans Motions nozzles..they are kinda pricey but will look nice and i will be able to direct flow.

I also bought a Tunze 6055w/ a single controller..and im in the process of buying a Reef Keeper 2 (if anybody has one..any comments about them?)

And im picking up a Snapper today..

The tank will be ready for pick up Dec. 8 so i will have everything ready by then..
