ARe ballasts in general supposed to get hot? Mine gets hotter than hades!

What kind is it - and how hot is it? Can you touch it?

Is it just a ballast or is it enclosed in a heat sink case?

Magnetic or Electronic ballast?

You will want to check it from time to time to make sure the ballast is not distorting due to heat. When that happens, your ballast is pretty much on its way out.

My Icecaps stay cold, my Fulham gets really hot.

My ballast is very hot, but just cool enough to tolerate me holding my hand on it, or maybe a couple of degrees cooler.
