Who here runs ozone and likes it?
I've had this ozone generator for awhile. It never seemed to do much to help with my system so I quit running it. Last night I noticed algae really trying to take hold in my tank so I hooked it back up. If figured hey I got it, run it. Overnight I lost everything. My tank is a mess. Every fish is dead. Coco worms are strewn about. Corals are white with flesh hanging from them. 2 beautiful hand fed blue ribbon eels, 1 ghost eel, a GIANT maroon clown, another maroon, a hybrid clarksii clown with mismatched fins, mimic tang all dead and nasty looking.
If your thinking about running ozone be careful.

:mad:OH man !!!! Sorry to hear that, I don't know much about ozone except that I don't use it..I wonder if the sudden infusion of ozone reacted with a build up of nitrogen in the water that wasn't present before,,.. hey mike on a bright note,, whenever you are ready for your clownfish you can have him

Oh man Mike, sorry to hear that.
Ozone ( O3) is good stuff, but also must be used in small quantities. Basically it's poison that you dose in small amounts so it's used up before it hits areas of your system that need to stay alive.
Usually best to introduce in to a skimmer.
I've also always tried to use units that their MAXIMUM output should still be below the tanks tollerance level.
I think like 0.18mg/gallon for 4-8 hours a day if memory serves me.

Todd thanks for the reply. In fact yes I do dose through the skimmer so hopefully it vents to atmosphere from the churning. You could see that when I asked 9 months or so ago if anyone else was having their skimmer eaten up from their ozone. Nothing changed about what I was running 3 months back, I just decided to hook it up and run it again.
Thanks Anthony and Ace, I've got several duplicates of most of my corals and some are still alive, some not so good. Others may recover with time. It's just really frustrating to lose those eels. I put so much effort into training the first one to eat and then watching it quickly teach the others to follow.
I'm still trying to decide how much effort I wish to put into getting back up to speed. Anyone want to make offers on a complete, turnkey 75g with ALL the best goodies? Euroreef, Eheim, Triggerfish systems, 2x250w DE fixture with 200w PC actinics, Icecap and Fulham Ballasts, oodles of live rock, live sand, inverts you probably won't anywhere else (I collect the odd), corals, and one huge Efflo weighing in around 5lbs?

Mike,
I am so sorry to hear about this. I can't imagine waking up one morning to that. I hope to see you rebuild this system to what it was.
I also want to say how much I appreciate the use of your glass handles. They helped tremendously yesterday.

Mike, what is the listed maximum mg/hour on the unit you used?
Todd
It's adjustable to 400mql an hour. I have it set at around 80-100 depending upon the accuracy of the dial. As was said, all has been well using it this way before.

Mike, my gues is either
1. the change from not using it to using it again shocked the system.
or
2. the adjusting mechanism failed. If it went 400mg/hr in to a 75 that'd nuke it.
As the rusty tank gears started turnign in my head I remember it was 0.18mg/hr per gallon if an air dryer was used and 0.36mg/hr if not. For 4-8 hrs a day as a safe area. I ran mine a little over this but worked up to it.

That is unreal. I can't believe it made the move no problem and then this is what did it in.
Best of luck rebuilding if that is what you decide to do.

100 gallon x 0.36=36mg/hr safe rate or a little higher.
Sorry again Mike, I hope it turns around.

Oh man, that s my worst nightmare... now I am afraid to go to sleep. I am afraid to make ANY changes to my system. It raises my blood pressure just to turn off my pumps at feeding time.
I don't have alot yet but some of my older stuff is just getting frag ready. I am pretty close to Round Rock and you are welcome to some of my frags when you are ready. :-)

Man, that sucks.
You need help setting up again, let me know.
I've got frags for ya when your ready.
You're always there when someone needs your help.
Now it's time for the rest of us to return the favor.
To the group:
NOBODY is allowed to send offers for Mike's stuff.
(That way he'll have to set back up.) ;)
