this is the definition for those that may not know.
"Polyp Bailout
Polyp bailout is the process where some stony corals eject themselves from their skeleton and drift to a new location. Once the polyp settles, a new skeleton is formed and a new colony begins. Bailouts are almost always a response to stress and is often a last ditch attempt for survival. If you notice the bailout of a coral in your tank, it may be time to do some additional testing to see if there is a problem in the reef tank."
Now, that being said here are two questions,
1. do you think this is a Stylophora or Poccillipora
2. do you think this can be just a random event because my tank looks great and not a problem anywhere

This coral looks and acts extreemly healthy yet I have experienced a small amount of Polyp Bailout,, I have a new coral growing on a powerhead and several on other rocks around the aquarium

I was reading this (http://www.wetwebmedia.com/corlbehfaqs.htm) article on polyp bail out earlier today. Very odd, thought I would share the link.

cant see the pic here at work, but i know that poccillipora will do this pretty often and can colonize your whole tank. there are some people that will not have a poccillipora in their tank because of this.

"there are some people that will not have a poccillipora in their tank because of this."

One of them being me, in my opinion, theyre another "weed" coral that can and will colonise every square inch of an aquarium if left uncontrolled. I had it so bad I couldnt give the stuff away fast enough, it was everyewhere, plugging returns, inlets, you name it... Not to mention its calcium sucking monster! I still have a little in my tank now but I keep a close eye on it.

I had polyp bailout occur on a piece of frogspawn and new polyps formed where the old once occured and the bailed polyp flourished into a new colony. I have yet to see my poccilipora do it.

I have heard of it happening before but never had an issue with it,, as of now I guess it doesnt hurt to have a couple more colonies in the tank,, I will keep an eye on it.
