This was a big thing in Idaho. I called one of the stores up north to find a source for them. These rocks can be added directly on top of your Ca media in your calcium reactor. www.zeovit.com (http://www.zeovit.com). I plan to order some when i change my media over to shuran.

Just thought I'd give a little FYI.

Cheers,

Kurt

Plus the website also hosts a system for reefing called the zeovit method, crazy expensive. I had a friend who used this system on his 180. When he broke frags you could here them snap from outside the tank (many factors affecting this, I know...I know). Check it out, a great way to one up your reefin buddies.

Check out Fauna Marin's version of the same stuff. I like it more as it is the same size particle as normal medium calcium reactor media.

As Greenmako can attest to, the zeovit rocks do not help the fluidization in a Deltec reactor.

John's right if you have a fluidized reactor then go with the Fanua Marin's thats what I'm about to order for myself. The zeovit rocks are really large but they do work as my mag stays above 1400ppm without dosing.

so I should use the zeovit rocks if i'm going to use shuran media?

i use the zeoMag in my reacor (not fluidized) with ARM media and it works great.

Are you all saying that their is something I can add to my reactor that will replace my Mg as well as calcium? I have a geo reactor with ARM media in it. Do I have to get my Mg back up to normal levels or will it do it by itself. Right now it is 1050.

you would still use your regular CA reactor media, you would just add a little of the magnesium rocks to it. before i added it, i couldnt dose enough to keep my mag at 1300, now it stays at 1500 without dosing.

Yes, that was the whole objective for this thread. I know many have reactors and few who use Mg Rocks.

I have a geo reactor so how much do i add to keep my 180g level?

10% of the total media volume

yep, the package said 5% - 10%. i put in about 5% in my reactor.

Is there any place local to buy this stuff, or is it online only? I haven't seen it in any of the LFS.

Thanks

Is it just dolomite? From the pic I found it looks like it.

10-20% depending upon demand of the total media volume. IMO.

What ph level does it need to be at? I keep my reactor at 6.9 with ARM

i dont think it is dolomite, it is supposed to be more pure. as far as the pH, i keep my reactor (at least the primary chamber) at 6.6 with ARM media. someone who knows alot more than me about calcium reactors suggested that pH.

Is this the stuff we're talking about?

Yes the fauna marin is the stuff I'm trying to bring in on a regular basis. The media does need a lower pH than traditional media so it won't begin melting until around 6.7-6.5 IME.

I use the zeomag as well, has worked great the last 2 years.
