Figured this would be a intersting/ Fun conversation........

What is the big stink about damesels. Some of these little guys are actually really beautiful and not as aggressive as some make them out to be. Example- The Princess Damsel as shown to us by one of our members is awesome and there are many other damsels that are just a beautiful. Its seems that some forget that Clowns are also damsels but we readily buy them. Tomatos and maroons can have rotten attitudes just the same as a domino or blue devil damsel. I have a 210g FOWLR and would like to add a school of a more midly aggressive damesels to add some fiestyness to the tank along with some larger tank mates triggers, angels, wrasses etc... I had a blue devil damsel and it wasn't aggressive, but I got lucky! I have a three stripe damsel that now resides in my fuge because it LOVES to be mean. I have nicknamed my tank heaven and the fuge hell. I have some oversized crabs in my fuge with REALLY beat up shells, and with that mean old damsel in there it seemed to be fitting! :lauging::D

I have always liked the Domino damsels, but with the smaller less aggressive fish in my tank I won't risk them. Damsels are OK if you enjoy keeping them, but like other fish compatibility must be researched.

The blue devils are usually fine in a large tank. Most of the problems come when people put them in small tanks as starter fish and then try to keep small peaceful stuff with them.

I have a friend that does service on large tanks only (200+) and he uses blue damsels alot. Schools of 15-20 are really spectacular.

my blue devil is a devil. He has killed 3 fish, and he fights with my clown trigger. He reminds me of hitler. It isnn't worth even trying to catch him. He is fast!

Some of the more aggressive damsels have given the whole group a bad rap. There are some that really don't deserve this reputation, such as the chromis for one but also yellow tail blue damsels are pretty peaceful and the Starcki Damsel is a really awesome fish without the typical bad attitude.
