i was gone for a week and i left my aunt (who i live with) incharge of my tank.Well she fed them yea.you see i dont have a ksimmer or a sump or anyhting im just using a filter (i know bad idea for reefs)but im in the process of buying hte stuff i need but anyways so i was gone and wheni came back i coudlent see in my tank.it was THAT bad with algae.so first thing i did was clean off all the algea.when i did the water started to look really really murky so i did a water change about 40%.since ive done that the tank is looking "better"

my damsel looks like he has some algae on him and he looks dirty how can i change this?
my maroon clown at first was hanging out behind my filter (thats always been his home) swimmin on his side.since ive done the water changes hes swimmin normally but hes not eating.im really worried hes gonna starve himself

also my xenia and GSP (only corals i have) are both closed and have been since i got home.well thats not true the GSP was open at first when i got home but when i brushed my hand over it it closed.i dont know how to tell if either of them are dead or what they even look liek dead.the xenia is still swaying with the water flow but i dont know if the dead bodys get stiff or not.

can someone please tell me what i need to do to get my clown eating again.to clean my damsel, and what to do about my corals?

I would keep doing BIG water changes. You could try a fresh water dip for the damsel. I don't think I would mess with the clown. It sounds like it is REALLY stressed. I would focus on water quality and hopefully the clown will come around. I think if you take the clown out of the tank and do anything crazy it will just stress him even more.
You can always try a garlic additive on the food. I have found this will get fish eating. You might also try some live brine. Fish tend to go for those like crazy.
As for the corals. I would just keep any nuisance algae off of them and hope for the best.
Best of luck. I hope your tank turns for the better.

well just to update it seems the damsel as somehow cleaned most of it off himself.the clown REALLY surprised me and went straight to the bottom of the tank and into my rock and now i cant find him.but its not like there alot of places to hid its just a hude archway.well 2 archways actually but still i mean i dont understand why i cant find him.

ive decided only thing i can do to make the tank last longer and be better in general is upgrade.im running a 20g right now with no sump no fudge nothin.next weekend when i get paid im going to try and find a 50g and maybe ill turn my current 20g into the tank for the sump for the 50g and ill try and find a cheap sump

He will probably die down there if you can't find him. In my experience, once my fish have hidden, that means they are on a crash course twards death. But, I dunno.......

To avoid problems in the futurre, esp. with algae, I would stop using the tap water.

I went on vacation to the coast and came home to pretty much the same thing. My mom came to feed my fish, and dumped the whole cup of pre mixed food into my tank. Yeah, algae city.

I'd be more concerned with Ammonia and Nitrate at that point rather than KH and pH

Find a store that tests water for free in San Antonio, it only takes a few minutes. We do them all the time at RCA
