So I got my tank moved to the apartment today.:whew: Only one bad thing happened. After getting all the rock out I proceeded in getting the fish out. As I got to the last fish (leopard wrasse) I could not find her. So I figured that she must have ran into one of the rocks to hide then I pulled her out and she was in a rock bucket. I then started with the sand which was about 10:45 am. After everything was said and done I got everything to the apartment. As I started to unload the sand back into the tank, HALF way down into the bucket (5 Gallon), what do I find? :eek:The leopard wrasse was buried ALIVE.:nailbiting: Amazingly she survived. It was 2:30 PM when I found her. So she was buried in the sand for about 3 hours. But all is well now, though not everyone is happy right now, looks like everything will make it.

oh my gosh!! What a hardy fish! And what a story! Now the wrasse can be a conversation piece of your tank!

Wrasses do bury themselves in the sand, so it probably hid itself deliberately

Yes it will be talked about.

I did not realize this. Maybe that is where she goes at night. I have yet to find where she sleeps, but as soon as the lights are on she is out.

Yeah I learned that with my Coris and xmas wrasses. When I got my coris I didn't see it for 2 days. Then one morning my son woke me up saying something ate my fish and all that was left was it's head. I ran to my tank and saw the head of the coris sitting on the sand. I went to scoop it up and by golly it shot up from the sand bed . Funniest thing I ever saw!!!

Yep, leopards are sand dwellers, that is they sleep and hide under the sand. Not all wrasses do this but a lot do.

The learning just never stops. This really does explain a lot.

Also, Leopard Wrasses aren't suppossed to be all that hardy. Most books say about a 2.5 out of 5. But I guess you got a special one. :D

That is why I was freaked out when I found her.

Hide and go seek! I had a midas blenny that was in a rock hiding. I took that rock out and all of the other rocks as well. I combed the sand with my fingers trying frantically to find him. A few days later, I saw this little head sticking out of a hole in the rock. I jumped up and plastered my face against the glass cursing at the fish that had caused me so much grief. I was astounded. haha.

I have a buddy that revamped his tank once and spent around 3 hours boxing up all his corals and getting fish into buckets, and another 2 hours replacing the sand and re-aquascaping the liverock... long story short, when putting the last piece of liverock back into the tank, out comes a fish, from unsubmerged liverock after almost 5 hours. LOL and he thought his eel ate it when it was nowhere to be found.
