beckett skimmer question

Does anyone ever run warm water into the air intakes on their beckett skimmers? My skimmer seems to run drier and drier as time goes, so I turn down the gate valve little by little. I ran some water into mine (thinking they were getting cloged, possibly) and the skimmer went nuts (skimming really wet) so now I had to open up the gate valve and don't get much substance as when I don't run water in the intakes. Any opinions?

instead of adjusting the gate valve continually, just remove the beckett injector and clean it when the skimmer starts to skim too dry. they are easy to clog with debris.
