I'm looking for the cheapest place to buy acrylic sheets. I know there is a few people out there that use it all the time so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Two places I buy from in SA are Allied Plastic and Regal Plastic. Allied is open on Sat morning (I was there today) and Regal is not. Both places are open til 5 during the week. Also, both are in the same general area East S.A.

Thanks, do you know of any good priced places online? Being that I'm at Fort Hood it would probably be better to buy online or maybe go to Austin.

How big are the pieces you are wanting? Getting a large sheet of acrylic shipped will cost you some bucks. Check the yellow pages under plastics. There may be a place in Killeen or Temple that sell it. If not, there are places in Austin.

For precut sizes, this site is not too bad. May work out cheaper than driving all the way from Killeen.

There is a Regal Plastics in Austin, which would make it closer.

I'm not sure what you're building, but if it's a sizable sump or tank you'll want to get high quality cast acrylic, preferably Cyro GP or Spartech polycast. Personally I would not use any other brand for anything that's got to hold water.

Mcmaster-carr online has a huge catalog and sells cut pieces of acrylic, like 2'X2', 2X4, 4X4, etc. So you might check there.

I'm starting to think Matt owns stock in the Cyro GP company! :-)

Actually, Spartech is better plastic; it has the best optical qualities and I have found that I get the best joints with it. But Cyro is fine too, especially if you're not building a show tank and so don't care about the great clarity. I will never use anything other than these two, however; the molecular weight of other brands is too inconsistant, and that means I have trouble getting perfect joints in "off" brands.

This is all in cast acrylic, and extruded is much softer and more consistant. Since most people are using extruded, I honestly don't think it matters too much what brand they get for that. Cyro FF is fine.
