I am seeking different ways to rid my JBJ12 of its surface scum. It has the upper overflow skimmer and a power head circulating the surface water but to no avail the film remains. I had heard word of using a paper towel to "Surface Skim" but have concerns that it would release dyes or fibers to the aquarium. Also i am wondering what produces the film in the first place because it has not always been a problem. Thanks- Andrew

How long since you cleaned pump and output nozzzle. When mine gets dirty,it reduces the output which seems to not agitate surface enough. Not sure if this will help you, does on my Nanocube 12DX.

Have you tried the cassette case mod?
or is the upper overflow skimmer the same thing?

Don't use paper towels in/on your tanks and equipment, just use coffee filters instead. They won't release any fibers or dyes!

i kept messing with my surface skimmer till i got it to work properly. i had to plug up some holes on the device its connected too because it was draining more water from the bottom of the attachment and none from the top.
ill take pictures later today when i get my camera back.
