Im looking to put one more fish in my 65 gallon reef tank. It needs to be functional and colorful but not get too big. It also needs to get along with mt Foxface an my two true Precs. Since Im not really a fish person, Im looking for some suggestions from those who are. Id realy like to stay away from the 'norm' and get something a little different. Pics would be nice. Thanks!

my candy hogfish has become my favorite fish. constantly moving, in and out of the rockwork, beutifull color, and a model citizen. CB seems to have them pretty regularly. but , maybe a primarily yellow fish wouldn't look to striking with your foxface.

some kind of cool wrasse, or maybe a flame angel

That Hogfish looks pretty cool but Id rather have something that would contrast the Foxface, I think it'd be too much yellow. Wrasses are cool too but I really dont want to decimate my pod population, no angels for me, not willing to risk the possibility of munching polyps then having to get it out of the tank.... Thanks! Any other suggestions?

Most tangs will outgrow a 65 gallon in no time... Although I wouldnt mind having one.

yep very true but you could get a small one, i think a baby purple tang would look awesome

I know you are skeptical of wrasses, but a Carpenter's or Filament Flasher wrasse would be a good addition to your tank IMO. I had a female (Flasher) for nearly three years until she went carpet surfing about three weeks ago. She readily ate flake, frozen, and of course pods. They are a graceful and usually active fish that would get along well with your other inhabitants.

Any idea whereI could get one of those Ed? They look really cool!

Just read where they are jumpers and my canopy is pretty open so I dont think its gonna work..,.

I really dont want to decimate my pod population,

Mandarins are gorgeous, but we all know your pods would disappear, and a mandarin will probably starve to death if you dont have a fuge ;)

I saw a leopard wrass in joe's tank, it is a male with purple, blue, red, with a little yellow. It looks killer in his tank.

I dont think a Leopard Wrasse would be happy in a bare bottom tank... Thanks though!

LOL! All I could picture was trying to sleep at night and hearing a continuous "thud...thud...thud" as the wrasse tries to dive...lol. (I know that wouldnt happen but made me laugh anyways)

Leopards are similar to care in mandarins and will deplete a pod population too.

Yeah, if the're anything like a Dragon Wrasse, they'll wreak havok on a sandbed also.

how about 2 or 3 bangaii cardinals. they're very gracefull looking as they float around the tank, and very low inpact. of all the brightly colored fish in my tank, they're the ones that most often get the"wow, what are those, angel fish?" coment from non reefers. they never can believe that the flame is an angel, and the cardinals are not.

Hmmm, Bangaii's... Not a bad idea, the Dome has a couple realy nice Flasher Wrasses that are eating well, Im considering one of those... Thanks!

ooh, yeah, i used to have a filamented flasher wrasse. actually i got it at the dome, lots of character. but, i thought your tank was open top. mine bounced off my hood more than once, even took a little journey across my centerbrace once!

Its not really open exactly but its not entirely closed either. I have a canopy on it with an open back, Id hate to come home and see the fish carpet surfing, I know they spook easily, even when I was checking them out at the Dome they were really skittish so I dont know yet.

i used a plastic grate material that i got from a craft store to enclose the back of my canopy. the material is used for cross stiching with yarn, it's a common sort of a kiddie craft thing. it's easy to use because it cuts with scissors, and the grid pattern makes it easy to measure, and cut straigh lines. the holes are only about 1/8 of an inch. i just attached it to the back of the canopy with thumb tacks so i can remove it easily. haven't had an escape since.

Nice choice, I am very happy with our flasher wrasse. Ours has lots of personality and always throws the fins up.
