I personally haven't used the ampmaster. I have owned a Dart in the past and just picked up another one for my new tank. I think the Dart will work out better for you in minimal sound, power consumption (they claim its the best on the market compared to the flow rate), and you really can't go wrong with Sequence brand pumps.

Now I do frequent many reef forums and I do like to read the long and drawn out build threads. A majority of the users I read up on use Sequence pumps. I believe ampmaster was big a few years ago but Sequence seems to have taken over in popularity and dependability.

when I plugged in my dart my wife literally said "You mean its already plugged in?!" when I asked her what she thought about the sound level.

I had an ampmaster for my 400g tank, it needed new seals. It seems that the ampmasters are known for having faulty seals, in fact it says so on their website. They gave away free heavy duty seals to anyone that needed them. I ordered the spares, read the online instructions, began the repairs and had the glue holding the impeller together let go. I then read the numerous threads on other forums about these issues and decided to buy a brand new Dart instead. I've seen many Darts in use and they run great and silent.

I love Sequence pumps for their dependability and customer service. They're easy to get and Sequence is often willing to send a loaner pump to put on the tank while they fix your current one.
