wow, i cant say enough about these things

first i replaced my mj-1200 with a koralia 3 and was running it next to a tunze nanostream (6025 IIRC) which put the flow in my 37cube at @ 1300 gph

yesterday i replaced my tunze with another koralia 3 yesterday pushing my gph to over 1700

i thought the tunze was a great pump, only because i didnt know any better. my tank is now just short of completely silent and with enough flow in a 37 to take the color off my fish now :D my critters all seem to love it.

fyi: jason at aquarium designs currently has all 4 models in stock

between these and the new magic magnet scraper thingy i have a new found love for my tank again

I also have a koralia 3, and love it.

Does everyones koralia act the same way? Mine does not throw the water in a cone shape instead it has two streams that come out in opposite angles like a V. The modded maxi had more of a cone shaped flow.

honestly, mine is really so well dispersed i cant tell where the flow is directed. i do know from watching the food dance around that i went from tons of deadspots with the two mj-1200s to what looks like none with the two koralias. i dont know if its related but when my tube anenome came out last night he almost looked double in size from the previous day. i think the koralias are keeping the food circulating more and the filter feeders are able to catch more now.

for orientation picture a 37 cube, both koralias are along the back wall. the left one is at about the half-way mark height wise and is pointed straight ahead about 1.5" from the left wall (just enough to get the mag float in). the one on the right is about 1" below water level pointed slightly toward the center of the tank and it too is just far enough from the right side to squeeze the mag float in.

yeah the flow on mine seems dispersed like tony said. i have a maxi jet 1200 poiting into the koralia streams so the streams intermix creating some cool random flow.

and if you want even more randomness they have the spinning deflectors that you can add on to them ($30ish IIRC)

it just seems like someone really knew what they were doing when they built this pump compared to the others ive used over the years. everything from the easy cleaning to the included magnet holder. it was very well thought out from head to toe. i honestly cant think of one flaw in it so to speak.

Yeah it was probably really easy to do once they copied the idea from Tunze and followed enough MJ mods on ReefCentral to figure out all the best ideas and incorporate them into one unit. The Korallia's are indeed nice and extremely affordable, but saying "they" did it right doesn't do justice to those that came before.

i cant say im sure as to why you are jumping on that particular comment but "they" did do it right and i will give credit where credit is due. mj and tunze had every opportunity to do the same thing yet they didnt. i wasnt bashing tunze or mj by any means, both have served me well for years. :)

And Tony neither was I bashing Seio, indeed I believe I wrote this "The Korallia's are indeed nice and extremely affordable, ". I was just saying that I hope they got it right since they came on the playing field late, long after all the testing and research was done for them. I will add that my Tunze streams are mounted on magnets, silent, no heat, and are easy to clean. The Korallia are certainly nicer to look at.

its all good :D

in tunzes defense i do think mine may be a defective one. it seems that at some random intervals the magnet spins loose then back in place because it would sound like a c130 at times. my bigger tunze was nothing short of great either.

Now I will say I had nothing but troubles with the one I had. I had one on the end of an Eheim 2217 canister and it would lock up constantly. I tried everything from cleaning under hot running water, soaking in vinegar, to taking it all apart each time. I finally gave up and removed it. I've met another member that said his ran perfectly for months at a time. I was told that maybe the 2217 did not pump out fast enough for it.

Tony,

When you come to Austin, get into contact with Roger Vitko with Tunze. Most of the early nano streams had problems but once Roger replaces what needs replacing they work GREAT.

i have a koralia 1 and i must say im impressed with it. its kept my sand bed free of detrius, as well as the rock. the maxijet 1200, unmodded, just puts out a straight stream of water.

the koralia puts out more of a cone-shaped dispersion pattern, but even that appears to be randomized :)

all in all, best 30 bux ive spent on a powerhead. big thumbs up here!

Wow, all I can say is wow. Three #4s in my 4 foot 75g and that thing is a rockin! I had to put the middle one for on at night only, while the other two are on during the day. Three was turning my tank into a sandstorm! I guess I have to let the dust settle! They are very simply manufactured, easy to clean, and a good soak in vinegar and a used one will perform as good as new! Power consumption is also great!

caveat: some have a plastic shaft through the impeller and some have a metal rod, it might behove you to buy accordingly

Thought I might stop in on this thread again, a month later. The flow on these things is fantastic. It is so dispersed that it is difficult to impossible to find a dead spot. I have two that run during the day, and when I feed nothing has the ability to stay on the bottom. I love it. :)

Maxijets that are modded yeah, they rock. An un modded maxijet shoots a straight stream of water while a Koralia disperses the water in more of a cone shaped pattern. You should check em out crossfire, everyone falls in love :hypnotyized::wub::hypnotyized::wub:

i was just about to ask if they had a model for nanos.i think even a koralia 1 would cause a big sandstorm since i have a 2.5" sand bed

Aquarium Design on Brook Hollow has them in stock and the price comes real close to Fosters and Smith. I bought a 3 and a 4 last weekend from Jason and they rock. I am heading his way tomorrow he has a Dwarf Lion Fish That I need.

These pumps are well worth the money. Compared to the tunze IMO they blow them away!!!

I have the Hydor Koralia 1 in my BC 29 with no problems at all. No sand storm
