i noticed that the silicon sealing the tank has a blue / teal tint to it. the only time ive seen that is when i would treat a freshwter tank with ich medication. now, the freshwater stuff i used did not contain copper (i read that if a tank has had copper-based treatments used in it, you cannot use it for a reef tank). the person i got this tank from assured me that no copper was used in this tank. what can i buy to test and make sure that no copper-based medications were used in it?

You can buy a Copper test kit from Salifert or any other company in our hobby. Test the water and see if it even shows up in the results. Then test again in a few weeks. The longer the tank is set up with water, the more likely any copper may leach out. I don't think you will have to worry about it too much....but a test kit will put your mind at ease ;)

Another vendor here once stated that the actuality of that problem having an effect on our tanks was very minimal if possible at all.

Sounds more like methylene blue...

A myth. I've done it many times.

My guess would be that they treated with Clout. That stuff turns the silicone blue after one treatment.
