I bought my med sailin tang about 3 weeks ago and about a week and a half ago he started showing some little white specks, now he is covered in big white spots and is starting to get cloudy eyes!what do i do? i have him a a fifty gallon tank with 2 domino damsels, two clownfish, and a small niger trigger. i didn't want him to spread the ick so i quarantined him to a 30 gallon tank that i have downstairs. i am trating him with something called kick ick. but it saysto take out the carbon filters while treating. do i take them out for the 30 days that it takes for the treatment or what? i also think that maybe one of my damsels may be infected. any advice. really don't want to use a c opper treatment, becuase i have read that it stay sin the tank no matter what.

feed lots of algea to the tang, live macro is best if not then nori works well also just try to keep some in the tank at all time for the tang to graze on. your display tank now has ick and the only way to get rid of it is to let the tank go fallow (no fish or inverts). or you can do like many others and just feed you fish a variety of foods, i believe live is best but if you use frozen then add a little garlic and selcon. garlic is for appetite ans possible immune system help and selcon is vitamins.

Give 'em the ol' freshwater dip. I did that with a Regal tang, and it worked... it was a very minor case though. All you have to do is put fresh, not salted, dechlorinated water into a small bucket or so, and put the fish in there for 3-5 minutes. The fish will look disoriented, and will act differently, but don't worry. He wont die. When you look at the clock it seems as though time is going by very slowly haha. Try that and see what happens.....

unfortunatly I dont think this will take the ICK out of the aquarium water, but then again, I don't know too much about it.

What kind of filter? I like the good old wet-dry filter with pump that runs 250 gph or more for a 50 gall tank. I think a good in-sump skimmer is a must, and a u.v. is a good add-on. If you are useing a hang on back filter, keeping ick off your fish will be difficult

i am using a hang on the back filter, the wet dry filter is in the plans, but not enough money yet.

Before I bought anymore fish id make sure and get proper filtration for the tank. Damsels will practically live in any conditions but tangs, angels and most other need pristine water. My guess would be that he developed ich from 1 improper water parems and confined space. Id recommend Sump and Skimmer, not a wetdry and fish that will thrive in a 50g. Good luck ;)
