Plenum?

Is anyone using a deep plenum in tank or fuge with a reef? What are the advantages & disadvantages of using a plenum?

The Jaubert system (plenum) does work, most people build it wrong and then complain it doesn't work.

4 inches of course gravel (not sand). Grains mostly 2-5 mm.
Little live rock. Only pieces holding coral. The live rock is not for filtration and blocks the substrate from diffusing.
Plenum space 3/4 - 1.5 inches
No sand sifters or a barrier placed halfway in the gravel.
Algae problems for the first 6 months while the system ages. After the system ages little algae problems
